MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Volleyball has inked a third member to their incoming class of 2023 with the signing of Anna Hanson. Hailing from Sonoma, Hanson just finished her senior season playing opposite for Justin-Siena High School. She joins an incoming class that will also feature freshmen Kaliko Kealoha and Gracie Vohs.

Hanson is coming off of a 26-10 season with Justin-Siena. She tallied a team-high 301 kills, while adding 49 aces and 195 digs. Over four years on the varsity squad for the Braves, Hanson led her team to two Vine Valley League titles (2021 and 2023), three trips to the CIF North Coast Section Division IV Tournament (2021, 2022 and 2023), and two trips to the CIF Division IV State Championship Tournament (2021 and 2023). She was named the 2023 Vine Valley League MVP, and was a first team All-VVAL and first team All-Napa County selectee in all four years of her prep career. Hanson played club volleyball for Absolute Volleyball Club out of San Rafael.
On why she chose to continue her volleyball career at Saint Mary's, Hanson noted, "SMC feels like home. From the minute you drive onto campus towards the chapel, you feel the familiarly and that you belong here. You are part of a big family." She went on to say about the program, "I like how competitive the team is. I also love how the coaches don't just develop the player, but also the person!" Hanson is no stranger to Saint Mary's, as she has over 20 relatives who have graduated from Saint Mary's College.
About Anna, Head Coach Rob Browning stated:
"We are delighted to welcome Anna to our SMCVB family. Anna and her family are Gaels through and through and we are excited for her to continue that tradition as a member of our team.
Anna has a whip of an arm and an uncanny ability to put the ball on the opponent's floor. She is a doer, a great teammate, and is serious about her academics.
Our class of 2024 is growing with Anna and we aren't finished. We will be adding more outstanding student-athletes to our roster in the coming weeks and months."
With the addition of Hanson and others, the Gaels will look to build off of this season's 16-12 season that netted their best finish in the WCC since 2018.
