MORAGA, Calif. — After a difficult week against two of the top three teams in the WCC, Saint Mary's will have a week to rest and regroup before returning to the hardwood to take on the Santa Clara Broncos inside UCU Pavilion Saturday. The Gaels bested the Broncos on the road earlier this season, and look to earn the series sweep this weekend to end their current two-match winless streak.

ELLA STEPS UP
Due to recent injuries, the Gaels have turned to Ella Sandt to play full rotation as the lone setter, and she has answered the bell. Not only has Ella been her spectacular self, distributing the ball, but has also seen an uptick in kills and blocks over the past week. Look for Ella to continue to be a big part of the Gaels game plan as we enter the final three weeks of the regular season.
ENTERING THE HOME STRETCH
The Gaels have just five more contests remaining this season, three at home and two on the road. Saint Mary's has a combined record of 4-1 against their remaining opponents this season, and will hope to close out a perfect 5-0, which would put them at 17-11 for the year, an eight win improvement from last season.
ABOUT THE BRONCOS
After winning six of their first seven contests, the Broncos have had a tough go of things in their second half of non-conference play and all of West Coast Conference play. Sitting at 11-13 on the season, Santa Clara hopes to finish strong, as they hunt for their first winning season since 2019. Fifth year Head Coach Erin Lindsey seems to have something clicking with her squad, having earned back-to-back wins last week for the first time since early September. Despite the less than stellar record, the Broncos do have a conference leader on their roster, as setter Nive Tuileta leads the conference with 816 total assists. This past week, however, it was a new face, freshman Alyssa Eimer, who stole the show for SCU, taking home WCC Player of the Week honors after her first two collegiate starts at libero. The Gaels swept the Broncos in their last meeting, despite a 14 kill performance by opposite Elena Radeff.
