WBB | Match Up With Local Rival Cal On Tap This Saturday

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Gaels will make the short trip to Cal to take on the Golden Bears this Saturday at 12:00 p.m. for the 27th all-time meeting between the two programs.
 
There's come coach crossover between the two programs. New SMC Head Coach, Jeff Cammon, was an assistant at Cal from 2014-16. Former Gaels assistant Heidi Heintz is in her second year as an assistant with the Bears.
 
The series that dates back to the 1984-85 season. The Golden Bears have a 21-5 series lead along with a five-game win streak, after coming back to sneak out a 69-66 win in Moraga, Calif. last season.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's split the two games of their annual Thanksgiving Classic. The Gaels stormed back from a double-digit halftime deficit to defeat North Carolina A&T, 73-65 on day one of the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.
 
The Gaels trailed by 10 points at the half, but shot 57.7% in the second half, with four players finishing the game in double figures scoring. The Aggies only loss this season going into the game was to Georgia, and they had big wins over Wake Forest and Liberty.
 
Game two of the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic went in the opposite direction of the first game for the Gaels, as Illinois State's strong second half led them to a 62-51 win over SMC on Saturday afternoon.
 
Saint Mary's made just seven field goals in the second half, and unconverted layups and points allowed the other way created swings in momentum and on the scoreboard.
 
ABOUT CAL
McKayla Williams has been one of the most active players on the glass for the Bears this season. Her 8.7 rebounds per game average leads the team and is ranked fourth in the country among guards in all major conferences.
 
Forward Marta Suarez's 13 made 3-pointers leads all forwards in the Pac-12 and ranks third in the country among forwards in all major conferences.
 
Leilani McIntosh is on pace to average her most assists per game for a season. Her 6.0 assists per game rank third in the Pac-12 and 14th in the country among all DI players. If she maintains her pace, she has a chance to break into the top three of Cal's all-time career assists list.
 
Lulu Laditan-Twidale is beginning to hit her stride from beyond the arc. She has now hit multiple 3-pointers in three straight games and is averaging 10 points per game over that span.
 
The Bears have had 10 or more steals in four games already this season, beating their total (2) from all of last year. Through the first seven games of the season, the Bears have hit 10 or more 3-pointers in three games, surpassing last year's total in which they hit double-figure 3-pointers in just one game.
