MBB | Bowen Named CSC Academic All-District
2/21/2023 12:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MORAGA, Calif. — Award season kicked off on Tuesday morning as the College Sports Communicators (CSC) revealed their Academic All-District teams for men's basketball. Kyle Bowen of Saint Mary's lands on the list for the first time in his career.
Bowen has been one of the best for the Gaels on the court and in the classroom. His 3.79 GPA as a Business Administration major is one of the best on the roster, and he plays important roles with the team's community service efforts, such as trips to the Ronald McDonald House. On the court, Bowen has started every game of the last two years and is setting career-highs in minutes, rebounds, and three-point percentage. He ranks second in the conference in assist-turnover ratio, and fourth in total rebounds.
This is the second year in a row Bowen has scooped up an academic award, after being named Academic All-WCC First Team last year for the first time.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, and no student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed at the links above.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
