MORAGA, Calif. – Mitchell Hoey's performance at the Ping Cougar Classic has earned him the Bay Alarm Student-Athlete of the Week Award for the week of April 24.

Hoey had the best third round of any golfer in the 92-player field with a 65 on the par-72 course. That monster third round led to him finishing in a tie for 11th overall at 7-under par. Â

The sophomore climbed 25 spots on the leader board in the final round and finished at 209 strokes, 1-under on par threes, and 6-under on par fives. He racked up 13 birdies during the tournament and was tied for the team lead in total pars made with 36.

The Alamo, Calif. native was even with par before going into the third round at the tournament hosted by BYU.

Hoey and the Gaels will now compete for the WCC Championship April 27-29 in Bremerton, Wash.
