HONOLULU, Hawaii – Saint Mary's has simply gotten better and better sine week one developing more chemistry on both sides of the ball. They completed the two-game sweep in Hawaii today with a 68-61 victory over Louisiana Monroe, the first matchup with the Warhawks in program history. Louisiana Monroe was held scoreless from the field over the final four minutes of the game and the Gaels found their rhythm from beyond the arc, finishing the afternoon 11-23 from three good for a new season high.
Three starters finished with double figures including returners Emily Foy, Maia Jones and senior transfer Kennedy Johnson. Foy and Jones combined for nine made three pointers to lead all players and Jones was 7-12 from the field good for a game high 19 points.
Saint Mary's continues to find their stride offensively as they finished 46% from the field and 47% from three. Head coach Jeff Cammon and his squad have shot over 40% from the field in all six games this season. The Gaels held a four-point lead after the first quarter, shooting 47% and knocking down three triples.
Louisiana Monroe converted back-to-back buckets to end the first half and make it a one-point game. The Warhawks matched the Gaels with 17 points in the third quarter to keep it a one-point game heading to the fourth, but once again the Gaels defense closed nicely holding Monroe to just nine points in the fourth.
