GOLF | Gaels in the Middle of the Pack After Grueling Day for All Teams at El Macero
4/12/2024 7:36:00 PM | Men's Golf
DAVIS, Calif. — Seldom will you see a collegiate golf tournament in which not a single team held a score below par, but that was the case on day one of the El Macero Classic, as the Gaels sit in ninth place at +19 out of 18 teams with 36 holes to go.
Connor Reis was the Gaels best performer in the first round of the tournament. The junior out of Claremont shot a 75 (+3) to tie him for 20th overall. Reis opened his day with two birdies through the first five holes, but three bogies to start the back nine would prevent Reis from shooting par or better. Jack Jerge was the only Gael to record three birdies in the round, but also had a pair of par three double bogeys, finishing at 77 (+5).
The Gaels sit 13 strikes out of first place, held by Grand Canyon, due in big part to tournament leader Tommaso Zorzetto (-1). Action for round two will get under way tomorrow at 8 AM!
