GOLF | Gaels Out of the Gates Hot, Settle into Seventh Place Through 36 Holes

COLUMBIA, Missouri — It was a dream start for Saint Mary's Golf, who saw themselves atop the leaderboards in the early goings of the Tiger Intercollegiate at the Club at Old Hawthorne. While the red hot early pace was not held throughout the first 36 holes, Saint Mary's did settle into the top of standings, sitting tied for seventh place in the 18 team field with a score of even par (568).
After a tumultuous couple of days in Maricopa, Arizona last week, Kristian Bressum returned to form in round one of this tournament, leading the Gaels with a (-2) 69. Kristian birdied two of the first five holes he played for the day, and would not record his first bogey until the tenth hole. A model of consistency, Bressum would finish his round with three birdies, two bogies and 13 pars. Jack Jerge finished one stroke behind Bressum, while the Gaels other three golfers in the lineup, Aidan Lee, Connor Reis and Mitchell Hoey, all finished just two strokes behind Bressum. Hoey joined Bressum as the only two Gaels who did not have anything worse than a bogey on their scorecards through round one. Through 18 holes, the Gaels sat in fifth place at (-3).
While Bressum's first round was solid, the round of the day for the Gaels belonged to Connor Reis in round tow, shooting a 68 and having just one bogey throughout the 18 hole round. Reis made excellent adjustments his second time through the course, after logging both a bogey and a double bogey in round one. Unfortunately for the Gaels, unlike round one, there was a much bigger range between the team's leader and the other four golfers, as no other golfer would shoot below par, with Mitchell Hoey being the next best finisher in round two at +1. Through 36 holes, Saint Mary's sat at even par, tied for seventh and 15 strokes behind tournament leader Central Arkansas.
Individually, Connor Reis was the only Gael to shoot par or better in both rounds one and two. He sits tied for 12th place overall at (-3). Jack Jerge, Kristian Bressum and Mitchell Hoey all sit at +1, tied for 32nd. Jack Lundin of Missouri and Dominic Clemons of Stetson are tied for the individual tournament lead, each at (-8).
The final round of the tournament will tee off tomorrow at 8 AM CST.
