MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels Golf Team is Missouri bound, as they get set to show their skills at the Tiger Intercollegiate at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia. Saint Mary's will be riding some momentum into the event following their best finish of the Spring at the Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona.
A week ago, the Gaels finished tied for seven in a 23 team field stacked full of talent at the Cowboy Classic. Jack Jerge put up a brilliant first two rounds, and Aidan Lee finished out strong, ending the event as the Gaels top finisher, as the team shot an 848 (-16), tying them with Kansas for seventh position. Individually, Lee also finished tied for seventh place, shooting eight under, through the three 72 holes.
In Missouri, the Gaels will roll out four of the five golfers that we saw last week in Arizona, as Aidan Lee, Jack Jerge, Connor Reis and Kristian Bressum will all be back in the saddle. Mitchell Hoey replaces Zack Missigman as the Gaels fifth, while James Watney will compete as an individual.
The home of the Missouri Golf Team since 2006, The Club at Old Hawthorne is a shorter 7,221 yard par 71 course. The course plays over rolling terrain with wider fairways, but compensates with plenty of water hazards and mid-fairway bunkers. The undulating greens at Old Hawthorne should also provide a good challenge for all golfers in the field.
The 18 team field is headlined by a pair of teams ranked in the top-40, Chattanooga and host Missouri. Fellow WCC San Francisco will join Saint Mary's as the only other California team in the field. This is the first time the Gaels have ever taken part in the Tiger Intercollegiate.
The 72 hole event will tee off at 8 AM Central Time on Monday, April 8, with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and 18 for Tuesday. The weather in Columbia calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid to high 70s and winds upwards of 11 mph. Follow along with the event by clicking here.
