MORAGA, Calif. - The Gaels women's basketball program will kickoff the 2024-25 season at Haas Pavilion, taking on Cal on November 4th. Saint Mary's non-conference schedule consists of ten games, six on the road and four on their homecourt at UCU Pavilion. They will host their first game on November 9th against Denver in their second ever matchup dating back to the 2023-24 season.
HOME CLASHES
Out of the team's four home non-conference matchups, they will face some new faces with their second ever matchup against Denver University and just their third ever matchup with UC Riverside. The Gaels will first take on the Pioneers on November 9th and will seek their second straight win as they went to Denver during the 2023-24 season and left with a five point victory. After hitting the road for the rest of November, Saint Mary's will host UC Riverside on Saturday, November 30th as both teams own a win in the series history with the Gaels lone victory coming during the 2004 season.
Saint Mary's will also take on Cal Baptist on December 7th in just their second ever meeting. The Gaels took down the Lancers in their previous matchup two seasons ago, 88-81, which featured a 21-point performance from five year vet Taycee Wedin. Their final home non-conference matchup will feature Division II member Sonoma State on Saturday, December 14th. The Seawolves are led by former UC Davis Associate Head Coach Des Abeyta in her third season and SSU belongs to the CCAA, the most successful Division II conference in the country. As always, tickets for all Gaels home games can be bought online at smcgaels.com/tickets and you can stream all home and conference games live on ESPN+.
NOTABLE ROAD TRIPS
The Gaels will hit the road six times during their non-conference schedule and they'll kick things off with a bay area battle against Cal at Haas Pavilion on November 4th. Saint Mary's fell to the Golden Bears by just five last season and will seek their first road victory over Cal since 2015. Ten days later, the Gaels will head south for matchups against UC San Diego and UC Irvine. The Tritons and Anteaters came north last season and the Gaels were able to record a pair of victories at home as they will look to sweep the two-game set once again on November 14th and 16th.
Replacing the team's annual Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic, the Gaels will go tropical and participate in the Bank of Hawaii Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii. They will play two games on November 22nd and 24th against Eastern Washington and Louisiana Monroe. Additional tournament information and game coverage will be made available at smcgaels.com. The program's road non-conference schedule will come to an end at Mountain West affiliate San Jose State. That game will take place on December 4th and the Gaels will seek their 13th straight win over the Spartans after a dominant 18-point home victory last season.
Head coach Jeff Cammon and his squad came out of their non-conference schedule at an even .500 last season and rattled off three straight wins before the start of conference play. They will look to turn the corner and enter WCC action with a winning record as Cammon enters his second season at the helm. "We're very excited about the upcoming season and the challenging schedule that we have ahead of us" said Cammon. "The goal was to play a competitive non-conference schedule that would test and prepare us for a tough WCC. We're looking forward to continuing to grow this program and keep it moving in the right direction."
