Zack Missigman returns for his fifth year at Saint Mary's and won the team's 72-hole qualifying earlier this week to earn his spot in the lineup. "I look forward to seeing him continue the positive momentum he built up in the summer and watching him become a leader for us on the team" said head coach Scott Hardy. Another returner for the Gaels in this weekend's starting lineup includes senior Connor Reis. Reis capped off a strong junior campaign with an individual victory at the Nick Watney Invitational hosted by Fresno State.
Junior Go Nakatsukasa will make his first start for the Gaels after transferring in from Utah. Nakatsukasa had a successful qualifier to earn a spot in this weekend's event and finished his Utah career competing in 11 events including the 2023 Pac-12 Championships. Aidan Lee returns for his third season with the Gaels after competing in 12 events and recording a stroke average of 73.2 during the 2023-24 season. "Lee will give us great experience and continues to up his game heading into this season" said Hardy.
Rounding out the starting lineup for Saint Mary's is redshirt freshman Avery Lazarski who will make his collegiate debut. "Avery played strong golf over the summer and showed he can be an impact freshman for us this season" (Hardy). Lastly, competing as an individual, is junior transfer Ian Bruchhauser who joins the Gaels from Northern Illinois. "Ian will be playing as an individual this week, but he has already shown he can compete well at the DI level and will be pushing for the individual title this week" said Hardy. At Northern Illinois, Bruchhauser was named to the MAC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2024 and competed in ten events during the season.
"The Islands Resort Intercollegiate is going to be a great way to start our 24-25' campaign. A solid field of contending teams and very good golf course will test the team right out of the gate. I look forward to seeing how we compete and if we can get in contention for a great finish early in the season" (Hardy).
LAST TIME OUT (2023-24)
Saint Mary's finished the 2023-24 season as semi-finalists in the WCC Championships. After qualifying for match play as one of the top four teams after the first three rounds, they would eventually fall to WCC Champions San Diego in match play.
On the year, the Gaels recorded six top-5 finishes and two tournament victories at the Nick Watney Invitational and the El Macero Classic. Connor Reis was the team's lone All-WCC selection and will seek his second consecutive all-conference selection this season. Head coach Scott Hardy last sent an individual to the NCAA Regionals in 2021 but will look to qualify as a team for the first time since 2019.
