SAN FRANCISCO — The Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team wrapped up their race at the SF State Invitational, finishing 10th in a field of 13 competing teams. The Gaels competed with a mostly younger squad, giving several underclassmen valuable experience while navigating through a competitive field at Golden Gate Park.
In just her second collegiate race, freshman Emma West led the Gaels, placing 53rd and clocking in at 23:33.3. West has now twice taken to the course at Golden Gate Park, competing in the USF Invitational earlier this year, but unlike her first time on this course, was able to score for the Gaels this time out. Crossing the line next was Andrea Villegas who finished the race in 24:07.6. Following her was Alexis Ortiz, who hit the finish line at 24:34.0, her fastest time on the young season. Capping off the scoring for the Gaels were Kylie Wisely (25:28.6) and Ava Irwin (26:17.8), while Peyton Miles completed the Gaels' effort in 26:41.9.
Saint Mary's will return to action in just a week at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale on Saturday, October 18th, in their final meet before the WCC Championships, aiming to build momentum heading into postseason competition.
