WXC | Gaels Head to the South Bay for Final Tune Up Before WCC Championships

MORAGA, Calif. — With WCC Championships right around the corner, Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team heads into their final meet of the regular season at the Bronco Invitational this Saturday, October 18th.
The Gaels are racing again just a week after taking on the SF State Invitational where they placed 10th in a field of 13 teams. In only her second race of the season, freshman Emma West led the Gaels, placing 53rd and clocking in at 23:33.3. Next in for Saint Mary's was senior Andrea Villegas who finished the race in 24:07.6. Crossing the line next was Alexis Ortiz, who earned her fastest time this season and finished the race in 24:34.0. Capping off the scoring for the Gaels were Kylie Wisely (25:28.6) and Ava Irwin (26:17.8).
Competing at the Bronco Invitational is mostly a younger group of Gaels including freshmen Maya Crimin, Kelsea Cummings, Courtney Fitzgibbon, Zoe Leach, Flavia Linares, Peyton Miles, Emma West, and Kylie Wisely, joined by sophomores Jane Harig, Ava Luczkow, and Alexis Ortiz, along with veterans Jane Carney and Andrea Villegas. Of this squad, it's freshman Courtney Fitzgibbon who has the quickest 6k time of 21:25.8 which she earned earlier this season at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Returning to the Bronco Invitational is Andrea Villegas, who competed in the invitational race and Jane Carney, Jane Harig, Ava Luczkow, and Alexis Ortiz who competed in the open. Villegas finished third for the Gaels on the invitational side and earned her personal best time in the 6000 meter race, crossing the line at 21:45.2. As for the open, Harig finished second for Saint Mary's last season and finished impressively at 18th overall, while Luczkow finished next and took 26th place. Following them and finishing third for the Gaels was Ortiz, who received her personal best time of 24:16.2. Carney came in next for the Gaels, rounding out this group of returning Gaels.
The Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara, will take place on Saturday, October 18th at 9:30 AM. The course will be held at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale which is directly adjacent to the bay. The course is flat, on mostly packed dirt, with some portions on grass.
