SUNNYVALE, Calif. — A collective effort led the Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team at the Bronco Invitational, as six Gaels set personal best records to wrap up the regular season on a high note. The Gaels finished the invitational in 11th overall in a field of 16 competing teams.
Freshman Zoe Leach led the charge for Saint Mary's, finishing first for the Gaels for the first time this season, snatching 33rd overall, and earning her personal best time of 21:33.9. Following her in was Courtney Fitzgibbon, who finished 43rd and clocked in at 21:44.9. Coming in third and fourth for the Gaels were Maya Crimin (22:10.7) and Kelsea Cummings (22:13.8), meaning all four of the Gaels top four finishers were true freshmen. Rounding off the scoring for Saint Mary's was Ava Luczkow, who crossed the finish line with her personal best time of 22:37.8.
Along with the top five runners for the Gaels, four other SMC competitors persevered to find their best times in the 6k race. Jane Harig completed the race in 22:41.5, improving off her previous personal best time which she earned at the WCC Championships last season. Jane Carney followed closely behind, clocking a personal best of 22:59.4, while Alexis Ortiz and Kylie Wisely rounded out the group of personal best performers, finishing back to back in 24:13.5 and 24:19.1 respectively.
After wrapping up a strong regular season, the Gaels now will prepare to compete at the WCC Championships on Saturday, November 1st in Cheney, Washington.
