MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country is set to take on the West Coast Conference Championship Invitational on Saturday, November 1st after six Gaels set personal best records to wrap up the regular season at the Bronco Invitational.
At the Bronco Invitational, the Gaels turned in a strong performance with Zoe Leach leading the charge for Saint Mary's. It was the freshman's first time leading the Gaels to the finish line, as she snatched 33rd overall and earned her personal best time of 21:33.9. Courtney Fitzgibbon crossed the line next and finished 43rd in 21:44.9. Coming in third and fourth for the Gaels were Maya Crimin (22:10.7) and Kelsea Cummings (22:13.8), highlighting an impressive showing with all four of Saint Mary's top finishers being true freshmen. Ava Luczkow rounded out the Gaels scoring, crossing the finish line with her personal best time of 22:37.8.
Racing at the WCC Championships will be mostly freshman, with Zoe Leach, Courtney Fitzgibbon, Maya Crimin, Kelsea Cummings, Flavia Linares, Emma West, and Kylie Wisely all taking on the course. Sophomores Ava Luczkow and Jane Harig, along with junior Jane Carney will also be competing. Of the runners, freshman Zoe Leach has the quickest 6k time which she recorded at the Bronco Invitational.
Jane Harig is the only Gael who is returning to the WCC Championships. Last season the race took place at the Micke Grove Gold Course in Lodi and Harig finished 62nd overall, clocking in at 22:48.9. As a team, the Gaels placed 5th out of 11 competing schools and were the first finisher of the West Coast Conference California schools.
The West Coast Conference Championships will be held on Saturday, November 1st at The Course Spokane Valley in Spokane, Washington. The women's 6k is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. The Course Spokane Valley just completed construction this fall and sits on 46 acres of Spokane Valley park property, consisting of two 3k loops and featuring grassy meadows, rocky outcrops, and a patchwork of hundred-year-old Douglas Fir.
