MORAGA, Calif. — With his first chance to complete a full recruiting cycle in Moraga, Saint Mary's Volleyball Head Coach Tyler Hildebrand is excited to announce the first two signing for his incoming class of 2026, as Tallulah Carney has made her commitment to Saint Mary's all the way from Knoxville, Tennessee, while Lainey Day will make her way to Moraga from Happy Valley, Oregon.
Standing at 6-1, Carney has played both opposite and middle blocker in her prep and club careers. For the Spartans of the Webb School, Carney played four years for the varsity team, tallying over 400 kills and 173 total blocks. After seeing limited time as a freshman, Carney burst onto the scene with 65 blocks to lead the Spartans to a 29-7 record and a second place district finish. A year later, that number jumped to 93 blocks to lead the team. Now just winding down her senior campaign, Carney finished leading her team in kills per set, and was named to the DII-AA All-East Region Volleyball Team. Carney also competed for the Spartans track and field team, winning both the league and regional titles in the high jump.
Day stands at 6-0 and has played both at the pin and in the middle for one of the top volleyball programs in the state of Oregon, Adrienne C. Nelson High School. For the Hawks, Day was a four-time all-conference honoree, leading her squad to three Mt Hood League Titles and a top-five finish in the 6A Oregon State Tournament in all four seasons of her prep career. As talented as she is on the court as she is in the classroom, Day was four-times named to the honor roll at Nelson, and will be a part of the new nursing program here at Saint Mary's.
Carney and Day will join a youthful Gaels squad that will feature 10 rising sophomores.
