WBB | Saint Mary’s Starts Road Trip with Defeat to 16th Ranked USC in SoCal
12/2/2025 9:21:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Saint Mary's headed south to the Galen Center for the first time in three years but 16th ranked USC owned the night, coming away with the 79-33 victory. The Gaels found themselves down just four points after the first quarter, shooting 50% from the field, but a season high 29 turnovers would lead to 28 points for the Trojans and their sixth win of the season.
Saint Mary's failed to end their losing streak as they now fall to 5-4 on the season and will return to the Bay Area to take on San Jose State on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 PM. Sophomore forward Edie Clarke led Saint Mary's with eight points and six rebounds while Emily Foy went 2-for-3 from the field good for five points off the bench. After allowing 14 points in the opening quarter, the 16th ranked Trojans held Saint Mary's to single digits in each of the next three quarters en route to the dominant home win.
FIRST HALF SMC 18-42 #16 USC

Defensively, the Gaels held the Trojans to 41% from the field in the opening period but took just eight shots to USC's 17.
After starting the second quarter down just four points, USC kicked things into high gear and outscored the Gaels 24-4 in the second quarter to take a 24-point lead into the half. Saint Mary's was just 1-for-13 from the field while USC shot 58% from the field and was also 8-for-10 from the free throw line to contribute to the big scoring period for the Trojans.
FINAL SMC 33-79 #16 USC
The scoring woes continued for Saint Mary's as they combined to score just 15 points in the second half, eight in the third and seven in the fourth, as 16th ranked USC ran away with the 46-point win. Once again, USC was not widely impressive offensively in the third quarter, shooting 42% from the field but being held scoreless from three (0-6). Turnovers continued to be a factor though as Saint Mary's finished with 29 on the night and the Trojans got credit for 16 steals.
Saint Mary's was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe but just 26% from the field and 15% from beyond the arc. Edie Clarke finished with eight points and six boards to lead the charge for Saint Mary's while Emily Foy led all bench scorers for the Gaels with five points of her own.
