SAN FRANCISCO – The day belonged to
Jason Habash, who won both the 800m and 1500m races to headline a strong overall performance for the Gaels men's track team at the Bay Area Invite, hosted by San Francisco State. In total, 15 Gaels competed in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m, with 11 crossing over competing in both the 800 and 1500. 14 of the 30 top-10 finishers in those three races were members of the Saint Mary's team.
Habash won the 800m, with Alexandro Alvarez finishing less than two seconds behind him in fourth. Daniel Martinez, Ethan Gray and Aidan Doherty rounded out the top ten finishers for the Gaels in that race, all finishing with sub 2:00 times. In the 1500m, Habash and Alvarez once again finished one-two for the Gaels, and this time in the race overall, as Alvarez finished just 0.08 seconds behind Habash's winning time of 3:51.65. Aidan Doherty, Jacob Moffett and Daniel Martinez each finished sub four minutes, and finished in fourth fifth and sixth respectively, while Curtis Volf rounded out the top-10 Gael finishers in eighth with a time of 4:00.22. The long distance event for the Gaels, the 5000m, saw all three runners for SMC finish in the top-10, paced by Luther Hart in fifth with a time of 15:14.68. Aidan Donovan finished in seventh and Troy Coulston in tenth to round out the Gael finishers.
The Gaels will spend next weekend at the Mark Conover Classic in San Luis Obispo.
