MGOLF | Mitchell Hoey Continues to Impress with San Francisco City Amateur Championship

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - On Sunday, March 23rd, Saint Mary's own Mitchell Hoey captured the San Francisco City Amateur title at famous TPC Harding Park after a thrilling match victory over former Notre Dame golfer Angelo Marcon. The week-long event came down to the final hole on Sunday as Hoey and Marcon were even heading to the 18th tee. Marcon put his tee shot into the water to open the door for Hoey, who was able to bogey the hole to win the championship for his second win of the year, taking home the 2025 AGC Pacific Grove Championship back in February.
After qualifying concluded on March 9th, Hoey went on to advance out of the quarters, semis and into the final 36-hole competition with Marcon on Sunday. Hoey defeated Eli Weidmann in the semifinals after Weidmann used an early eagle to propel him to a win in his quarterfinal match over 2024 runner-up AJ Fitzgerald.
"Putting your name on that trophy and playing at a world-class venue like Harding Park is a great accomplishment", said Gaels head coach Scott Hardy. "We are also proud that Mitchell became the third golfer from the Saint Mary's golf program to win the event. Excited to see Mitchell continue to improve his game into the summer months. Winning the San Francisco City Championship is a great addition to an amateur golfers resume and we can't wait to see what the future has in store for Mitchell" (Hardy).
