EL MACERO, Calif. - The Gaels ended up alone in first place after a remarkable day at El Macero Country Club from senior Connor Reis, junior Aidan Lee, and sophomore Avery Lazarski, who all finished today with a score of 70 (-2). On a day where the entire field struggled, all three also finished t-3rd in par three, four, and five scoring. The Gaels were also the only team in the field to shoot below par at four-under with a team score of 284.
Lee started off his round with an eagle and a birdie before having a rough stretch of four bogeys to start the second nine. He would end the 18th hole though with another eagle to turn his day around. Reis and Lee both also jumped to four-under through their two rounds, vaulting to a t-1st in the individual rankings.
Lazarski turned his day around on the 6th hole after being (+2) through five, where he would go on to birdie four of the next seven holes, bringing him level with his teammates at two-under. Go Nakatsukasa had an up and down battle as he was even through eight before recording a seven on the ninth. Nakatsukasa eventually would turn his day around, concluding his evening in Davis with two birdies in his final four holes.
The WCC continues to look strong in the El Macero Invitational as Pacific and San Diego both sit t-3rd in the team standings behind UC San Diego. While the Toreros took it to the Gaels out on the diamond today, Saint Mary's returned the favor and passed them in the standings as USD shot three-over as a team and fell into a tie for third.
The Gaels are in a prime position to take home the tournament title for a second consecutive year, and possibly collect the individual title as well with two players competing for the top spot. Zack Missigman will lead off the Gaels third and final round with his tee time tomorrow set at 9:48 AM. The rest of the team's starting lineup will follow him shortly after.
