MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's boasts a decorated group of alumni over its 160+ year history and adding to that list is men's golf alumnus Joshua Kelley who made his PGA Tour debut last weekend at the Barracuda Championship. Kelley is a talented NorCal PGA Professional and works as a swing coach at Sunday Swing, an indoor golf simulator and training facility that is heavily used by the Saint Mary's men's golf program.
Kelley competes on and off throughout the year but was able to win the 2025 Yamaha NCPGA Match Play Crown back in April. His victory gave him exemption into the Barracuda Championship later this summer, allowing him to make his first career start on the PGA Tour.
Joshua Kelley failed to make the cut at the Barracuda Championship but came away with an invaluable experience, competing against quality names and established tour members including Beau Hossler, Joel Dahmen, Adam Hadwin and six-time tour winner Max Homa.
At Saint Mary's, Kelley was a talented golfer during his four-year career, competing in an NCAA Regional in 2005 and earning All-WCC honors his senior year in 2008. As a true freshman, Kelley finished the year with a 74.8 stroke average, good for the second lowest by a freshman in program history. He went on to place 39th individually in the NCAA West Regional later that year.
He made his biggest jump during his senior campaign, recording a 73.2 stroke average over 33 rounds during the 2007-08 season. At the time, he set the program's 54-hole scoring record with a 205 (-11) at the Xavier Fall Invitational. That record would stand for nearly eight years before program great Jonathan De Los Reyes would card a 204 (-6) at The Goodwin Invitational in March of 2015. The under-par record would fall in 2015 with Pavan Sagoo finishing 16-under in his three rounds at the Nick Watney Invitational.
Today, Kelley is based in Pleasant Hill with his wife Sara and their children Rowan and Leland. He now has over a decade of teaching experience and works closely with the Gaels golf program and Sunday Swing as one of the top PGA Professionals in Northern California.
"Josh has always been a great ambassador for Saint Mary's golf and the golf community here in Northern California", said Gaels head coach Scott Hardy. "Josh is a knowledgeable and respected swing coach that still plays at a high level. Once he decided to be a part of Sunday Swing I knew he would have a closer and more impactful influence on our program. It is great that our players have close access to Josh for his knowledge and mentorship" (Hardy).
The Saint Mary's athletics department thanks Kelley for his continued efforts with the Gaels men's golf program and positively representing the college's core values within the community.
