BARK RIVER, Mich. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team held on to a fifth place finish at the 2025 Island Resort Intercollegiate hosted by South Dakota State Monday afternoon. There was no shortage of low scores for the three rounds at Sage Creek as the Gaels put together a 17-under second round to sit alone in third place. They would finish just three-under-par on Monday in the final round but hang on for a top-five finish to start the season. 

After redshirting his first collegiate season, Sam Baumuller came out hot in his debut with a score of 11-under over his three rounds to help lead the Gaels. He concluded the tournament in a tie for 8th place in his collegiate debut. Baumuller recorded ten birdies and an eagle over his first two rounds including an impressive round of 65 (-7) to put Saint Mary's in third place after the second round. 

Senior Aidan Lee was the next best finisher for Saint Mary's, concluding his three rounds at 7-under-par. Lee finished under par in each of his three rounds and put together a 68 (-4) to start the day on Sunday which featured six birdies and back-to-back to end the round. 

The Gaels were the only team inside the top-five to finish single digits under par in Monday's final round but they were able to hang on to fifth place thanks to a two-under final round from Inigo Izuzquiza. Izuzquiza made his SMC debut after transferring in from UNLV last season. His three birdies helped maintain the Gaels fifth place finish.
