MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team is looking to carry their momentum forward as they compete in the Kim Duyst Invitational on Saturday, September 13th.
The Gaels are coming off the USF Invitational where they placed seventh overall out of 13 teams. It was junior Kaylee Barnes who led the way for Saint Mary's. She finished in 12th place with a time of 21:31.6, recording her second fastest time at the Golden Gate Park Cross Country Course. Returning sophomore Eleanor Jepson, who finished third for the Gaels, clocked in with a time of 22:23.9. Amongst these veterans, were freshman Zoe Leach, Courtney Fitzgibbon, and Flavia Linares who finished second, fourth, and fifth to round out the Gaels scoring. Their impact gives Saint Mary's plenty to be excited about this fall, with a young core already making an impression.
Running at the upcoming Kim Duyst Invitational, will be a mix of both veterans and newcomers. Freshman Kelsea Cummings, Peyton Miles, Emma West, and Kylie Wisely are set to take on the River Oaks Golf Course, while veterans Jane Carney, Ava Irwin, Ava Luczkow, Alexis Ortiz, and Andrea Villegas will show them the ropes. Of these runners Andrea Villegas has the best career 6k time clocking in at 21:45.2 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational last season.
The Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State, will take place at the River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, CA on September 13th. The race will consist of three 2k loops and will take place mostly on grass, with a small portion on dirt.
