BREMERTON, Wash. - Saint Mary's grinded through an up-and-down first day at The Tindall in Bremerton, Washington on Monday. The Gaels sat in fifth place after their first 18 holes but finished even par as a team in the second round, falling to tenth place. Darkness did come into play at the end of the first day as senior
Aidan Lee was the lone Gael to not finish his second round. He currently sits at 1-under for the tournament and 2-under in his second round.
As a team, Saint Mary's finished 1-under-par in their opening round to sit in fifth place.
Sam Baumuller and
Avery Lazarski each posted 71's to lead the way with a combined ten birdies. Baumuller ended his first round in style with birdies on three of his final five holes.
Inigo Izuzquiza and
Aidan Lee were the other two counting scores for the Gaels at even par and one-over.
As a team, the Gaels got off to a tough start in round two with a combined eleven holes over par on the front nine but they would turn things around with eleven holes under par on the back side including an eagle from Lee on the par five sixth. Fellow senior
Mitchell Hoey was the dropped fifth score in round one but he bounced back nicely and rattled off four birdies over his final six holes to finish his second round at even par.
Some quality late scoring for Saint Mary's brought them back to even par as a team in the second round, but big performances from Cal, Oregon and Washington State dropped Saint Mary's to tenth place.
Aidan Lee has two holes to finish in the morning to conclude his second round but the Gaels are just two strokes away from seventh place and will look to make a late push tomorrow in the final round.
