WXC | Six Gaels PR at UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Saint Mary's Women's Cross Country team wrapped up their morning at the UC Riverside Invitational, with six of the ten Gaels racing earning personal best times in the 6k. The Gaels finished in 17th in the field of 24 teams.
Senior Kaylee Barnes led the charge for the Gaels, opening her first 2k in 6:42.7 before surging through the field. By the time she reached the finish line, Barnes had shot past a total of 25 runners, earned her spot in the top 50 at 44th, and finished with a time of 21:13.9. Following her was New Zealand native Courtney Fitzgibbon, who ran a personal best crossing the line in 21:35.8 and pushing past 31 runners in the final 4000 meters to finish in 78th. The third Saint Mary's finisher was freshman Zoe Leach who clocked in at 21:41.6 for her own PR, good for 90th. Coming in fourth and fifth for the Gaels were freshmen Maya Crimin (21:55.8, 118th) and Kelsea Cummings (22:06.0, 129th), who both set personal best times in the 6k.
Along with the top five finishers for the Gaels, Jane Carney improved her 6k time by 30 seconds with a time of 23:06.7, while Flavia Linares capped the Gaels' day of strong efforts with a best time of 23:28.4.
The Gaels will be back in action on October 10th, when they will head across the Bay to take on the SF State Invitational.
