BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Saint Mary's put their previous event in the rear-view mirror Sunday morning as they got off to a hot start at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate. An opening round of 9-under put them at the top of the leaderboard thanks to rounds under-par from all four of their counting scores.
Aidan Lee and
Avery Lazarski each carded opening rounds of 67 (-3) to lead the charge. Lee had five birdies and an eagle over his first 18 holes while Lazarski recorded a team high seven birdies in his round. Senior
Mitchell Hoey also bounced back with his best individual round of 2025, recording a 68 (-2) that featured four birdies.
Inigo Izuzquiza was the final counting score in round one for the Gaels, finishing one-under-par.
Round two featured some struggles for Saint Mary's as they fell to third place with a round of five-over-par. Hoey was the only golfer in red figures for the Gaels as he finished one-under and sits in eleventh place individually to lead the team.
Sam Baumuller bounced back with a round of even-par to be one of the four counting scores.
Saint Mary's still remains in a tie for third place at four-under-par and are just three strokes off the lead as they head into the final round Monday morning. Live scoring links and full tournament leaderboards can be found at smcgaels.com.
