LAST TIME OUT (1st place at CDA National Reserve Invitational)
Saint Mary's found its way to the top of the leaderboard for the first time in over two years, winning the CDA National Reserve Invitational in Idaho last just two weeks ago. The Gaels carded a season low 15-under second round to shoot their way up the leaderboard after the first day. Tuesday's final round played nearly four strokes over par for the entire field, but Saint Mary's found a way to hang on and win the event at seven-under-par, just one stroke above fellow West Coast Conference member Pacific.Â
Redshirt sophomore Sam Baumuller has gotten off to a blistering start through two events this fall, recording his second consecutive top-three finish. He led the tournament field after day one, which featured a career low 64 (-8) second round. The Los Gatos native dropped just one spot on Tuesday to finish in a tie for second place at seven-under-par. Through six rounds this fall, Baumuller owns a team best 69.0 stroke average with back-to-back top-three finishes. Three other Gaels finished inside the top-20 as well as individual Hudson Vedder who finished inside the top-ten with a career best three round score of three-under-par. Inigo Izuzquiza finished his week at two-under for a ninth place finish while first-year golfers Trey Tuyo and Will Hardy cracked the top-20 at three-over-par.Â
Saint Mary's last won multiple events in the same season during the 2023-24 campaign with wins at the Nick Watney Invitational and the El Macero Classic. They'll return to the Visit Stockton Invitational for the first time since 2021. Additional tournament information and live scoring links can be found at smcgaels.com. Â Â Â
