SAN BRUNO, Calif. — After sweeping the Pacific Tigers in its conference opening weekend, the Saint Mary's softball team had a pair of players earn West Coast Conference Weekly Awards, as Odhi Vasquez picked up her second Pitcher of the Week honor of the year and Hannah Ferguson earned her second Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Monday. The Gaels are the second WCC school to sweep the weekly awards, as Oregon State swept them in week three of the season.
Vasquez pitched the Gaels to two of their three wins against the Tigers, surrendering just six hits and a pair of unearned runs, while fanning 11 in her 13 innings inside the circle. The senior from Upland has not suffered a loss in her last 15 outings, going 10-0 with two saves in that stretch.
Ferguson logged a pair of hits in all three contests against the Pacific Tigers, including two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. She scored the go-ahead run in game one, an eventual 9-1 win for the Gaels after falling behind 1-0, and scored the winning run in the series finale, helping the Gaels secure their 10th straight victory, a new program record.
Vasquez, Ferguson and the rest of the Saint Mary's Gaels will head to Stanford for their WCC bye week, playing in the Stanford Round Robin against the host Cardinal and Washington Huskies, who were both ranked in last week's Top 25 national polls.
