HONOLULU, Hawaii — Saint Mary's rounded out its visit to Honolulu with a split against Chaminade and Concordia Irvine on the final day of the Heineken Queen's Cup. The Gaels went 4-2 in the event, their best over their past three years competing in it.
For the third straight season, the Gaels defeated the Silver Swords of Chaminade, making quick work of their first opponent in day three of the Heineken Queen's Cup. Saint Mary's won all five matches in straight sets, not allowing a single Chaminade pair to score more than 17 points in a set. At the ones, Angelina Bour and Nya Crump logged their 22nd win together, moving into a tie for seventh most by a duo in program history.
The event ended with another dog fight for the Gaels, against Concordia Irvine. Hannah Glick and Isla Johnson gave the Gaels an early lead at the fives, and, after the Golden Eagles drew level, Clarissa Klein and Bella Reyes once again put Saint Mary's in the driver's seat, 2-1. The Gaels needed one more win from either their ones or fours, and while both of those flights went three full sets, both went the way of Concordia, as they picked up the final win of the event. The match marked the 100th in the career of Genevieve Bane for the Gaels, joining Hannah Couch and Angelina Bour as active Gaels to appear in triple digit matches.
Saint Mary's will return to the Bay next weekend for four games at Spartan Beach in San Jose, taking on the host Spartans, as well as Pacific, College of Siskiyous and Cabrillo College. The event will span from March 13 to March 14.
