4/9/2026 11:16:00 AM | Men's Golf
DAVIS, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team will head just east of Davis to compete in the annual El Macero Classic as their final regular season event. The Gaels are coming down the home stretch of a grueling two week schedule featuring three events in a 14-day span. The El Macero Classic will stand as the team's final event before the 2026 West Coast Conference Championship starting on Friday, May 1.
Saint Mary's currently sits at No. 64 in the Scoreboard Clippd rankings, firmly in the at-large conversation. The WCC had four bids to the NCAA Regionals last year and have been a multi-bid conference each of the last ten years, as Saint Mary's continues to hunt for its first regional appearance since 2021.

LAST TIME OUT (3rd place at Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate)
Saint Mary's competed in the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate for the third consecutive year, and was able to hang on for a solo third place finish for its third top three of the 2025-26 season. The Club at Old Hawthorne had its challenges though for the 25-team field, as the course played more than four strokes over par in the final round on Wednesday. The Gaels were in second place after the two rounds on Tuesday, but managed to fall just one spot thanks to even par final rounds from Mitchell Hoey and Avery Lazarski to lock up third place.
Head coach Scott Hardy had some standout individual performances in Columbia as well, contributing to the team's third place finish, including redshirt junior Inigo Izuzquiza, who has emerged as a staple in the Gaels lineup this year after redshirting during the 2024-25 season. Izuzquiza finished in a tie for ninth place individually after his three rounds for his second top-10 finish of the season. He recorded the low round of the week for the Gaels with a stellar 65 (-5) in round two that included a team high seven birdies. Aidan Lee was the team's next best finisher in a tie for 20th place at 4-over-par for the event. Lee recorded his fifth top-20 of the season and has been in good form as of late, finishing inside the top-20 in three of his last four events, including a fifth place finish at the Duck invitational.
Saint Mary's has fond memories at El Macero Country Club, as they've recorded back-to-back top-two finishes over the last two years, including a team title in 2024, where now seniors Aidan Lee and Mitchell Hoey were in the team's starting lineup as a sophomore and junior respectively with the program.
First round action at the El Macero Classic starts on Friday at 8:00 a.m. and live scoring can be found HERE or at smcgaels.com.
