FAIRFIELD, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team needed a big push Saturday morning to have a chance at making the match play portion of the 2026 West Coast Conference Championship but ultimately fell to 11th place with a tough 12-over final round.
Avery Lazarski finished as the team's low scorer over the three rounds, carding a 73 (+2) in the final round on Saturday to move into a tie for 21st place individually. Scoring came at a premium for the Gaels as they tallied just 12 birdies on the day but struggled to record clean holes as they fell into eleventh place to end their postseason run. Sam Baumuller and Mitchell Hoey were the next best scorers on Saturday each recording a 74 (+3) while Inigo Izuzquiza was the fourth counting score for the Gaels at 4-over-par.
The top four advancing teams for the conference tournament include No. 45 San Diego, No. 15 Pepperdine, first-year WCC member Augusta and Oregon State.
Saint Mary's came into the postseason event ranked 66th in the latest Scoreboard Clippd rankings but will have to wait and see if they have their name called for the NCAA Regionals. The tournament field will be announced on Wednesday, May 6. Full WCC Championship leaderboards can be found HERE.
