WANTIRNA SOUTH, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – As just announced by the South East Melbourne Phoenix, former Gael great Tanner Krebs has signed a two year deal with the club. A six year veteran of Australia's National Basketball League (NBL), Krebs spent the last three years with South East Melbourne's crosstown rival, Melbourne United, while spending his first three years in the league with the Brisbane Bullets.
Krebs is coming off of arguably his best year with Melbourne United, scoring 8.0 points per game while shooting 51.5% from the field and 39.3% from three. Playing alongside former Gael teammate Kyle Bowen, the duo helped Melbourne United to a 20-13 record and trip to the NBL Quarter-Finals.
Krebs will join a Phoenix squad that went 22-11 last year, and advanced one round further than their rival to the NBL Semi-Finals. With the Phoenix, Krebs will join another former Gael teammate, Jordan Hunter, as the two will reunite for the first time since leading the Gaels to the 2019 West Coast Conference Tournament Title.
Playing four years in Moraga after redshirting in 2015-16 as a true freshman, Krebs appeared in 135 games for the Gaels, becoming a full-fledged starter as a redshirt sophomore. Known for his consistent three point and free throw shooting, Krebs averaged 7.5 points per game throughout his career, including a career-best 9.1 in 2019-20. For his career, he shot 39% from three and 85.3% from the stripe (third-best in program history). His 198 made three pointers rank as the sixth most in program history, as do his 135 games played.
