BSB | Valenzuela Announces Nick Meyer as Catching Coach for the Gaels

MORAGA, Calif. - On Monday, September 14, Saint Mary's baseball head coach Eric Valenzuela announced Nick Meyer as the team's new catching coach ahead of the 2027 season.
Meyer was a three-year college standout at Big West member Cal Poly from 2016-18. With the Mustangs he was a career .298 hitter with 176 hits including a career best .343 average as a junior in 2018. Meyer went on to be named the 2018 Big West Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-Big West First Team, catapulting him into a sixth round draft pick by the New York Mets later that summer.
Meyer began his career in Low-A with the Brooklyn Cyclones after his draft selection and was able to take steps forward each consecutive season, making his way to the Mets Triple-A affiliate, Syracuse Mets, for the start of the 2021 season. The SoCal native would bounce between Double and Triple-A for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, combining for 134 games played and a .260 average at the plate. Meyer concluded his professional career with the Tampa Bay Rays after a Spring Training invite in 2024 and then returned to Cal Poly as a Student Assistant in 2025 to start his coaching career.
Meyer's professional journey matched with his standout mid-major career will translate right away for a surging Gaels baseball program that is coming off of its second consecutive and third NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
