WSOC | Gaels Take On No. 18 Utah State to Conclude Non-Conference Schedule

MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's women's soccer team will head to Logan, Utah, for the first time in program history to take on the Utah State Aggies. The Gaels will bring their 15-game unbeaten streak to Utah, the second-longest streak in the country, and remain one of twenty-three teams in the country yet to lose a match. Saint Mary's currently ranks third-best in shutout percentage in the country and is in search of its first victory over the Aggies since 1998.

GAELS OUTLOOK
Gaels Stay Unbeaten; Continue Longest Road Trip Of 2026…
Saint Mary's maintained its historic unbeaten streak this past week, breaking the program record of thirteen unbeaten set by Paul Ratcliffe's side in 2001 with its 3-2 victory at Sacramento State on Thursday. Sophomore Ashlyn Vaughn led the way for the Gaels, scoring two goals in the match and three on the week, doubling her goal tally from a season ago and becoming the first Gael to score three goals in a week since Tessa Salvestrin's hat trick at Tennessee Tech in 2024. Also on the scoresheet was freshman midfielder Penelope Correa, who picked up her first collegiate goal after a great build-up and a pair of assists from Faith Gunter and Brianna Jurasek.
The Gaels then traveled to San Jose State this past Sunday, taking down the Spartans 2-0 as defender Molly Silva picked up her first goal of the season and second of her career. Saint Mary's picked up its eighth shutout of the season, led in part by another stellar performance from goalkeeper Kate Plachy, who recorded a season-high six saves and brought her career total to 136, now ranking eighth all-time among Gael goalkeepers.
Freshmen Phenoms Continue to Shine…
After becoming the first Gael freshman to win the WCC Player of the Week award since freshman goalkeeper Maleah Milner in 2017, forward Brianna Jurasek continued her stellar campaign by picking up two assists in two matches this past week. Jurasek now stands as the only Gael to rank top three in goals and assists within the squad, even with the freshman yet to start a match in her collegiate career.
As dominant as Jurasek has been, midfielder Penelope Correa has become a mainstay in the Gael offense, picking up her first collegiate goal on Thursday and her second assist of the season on Sunday, now ranking top-three in points among active Gaels in 2026. Jurasek and Correa have already made Gael history, becoming the first pair of freshmen to record 2+ assists in a season since 2023, not even halfway through the 2026 season.
Series History…
The Gaels have very little history with the Aggies, as the only match between the two sides was held in Moraga back in 1998. Saint Mary's took down Utah State 2-1 on the day, with a brace from Gael great Sami Conroy to propel the Gaels past the Aggies. The Gaels have faced one Pac-12 team this season, taking down Fresno State 4-0 in Moraga to open their home campaign and will look for their first ever road win over Utah State on Sunday.

After a 10-6-7 season highlighted by a Mountain West Championship a season ago, the Utah State Aggies are in search of their first-ever NCAA tournament victory after three consecutive trips to the Big Dance. The Aggies were picked to finish first in the new-look Pac-12 conference and currently rank No. 18 in the country with their Pac-12 counterpart, Texas State. Entering his sixth season at the helm, head coach Manny Martins has transformed the Aggies program into a national powerhouse after winning the Mountain West tournament the last three seasons.
After entering the season unranked, the Aggies took down in-state powerhouse and No. 13 BYU 4-0 this past week, earning their second top-25 victory in program history while holding the longest home unbeaten streak in the country at 32 matches. The Aggies are dangerous from both ends, as defender Capriel Winder ranks top-20 in the country with six assists on the season, while forward Ellie Hendrix has scored in three straight matches this season, including a hat trick of assists in their 8-1 victory over Utah Tech back on September 3.
Returning to Logan will be Gaels forward Brooklyn Smith, who grew up in Utah and played two seasons for the Aggies before transferring to Saint Mary's. With the Aggies' only two losses coming against ranked opponents this season, the Gaels look for their first victory against a ranked opponent on the road since they took down No. 16 Georgetown 2-0 a season ago.
