COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - The Saint Mary's golf team will head north this weekend for the 2026 CDA National Reserve Invitational hosted by Eastern Washington for its second event of the fall season. The Gaels are fresh off a top-five finish in their season opening event at the Island Resort Intercollegiate and will compete in Idaho for the first time since 2018.
Head coach Scott Hardy made just one change to his starting lineup for this week as true freshman Will Hardy will step in for his first collegiate start after a successful week of qualifying and competing as an individual in the team's first event of the season in Michigan. Veterans Sam Baumuller and Inigo Izuzquiza will continue to lead the charge out of the top two spots for the Gaels as the team looks for another quality finish in Coeur d'Alene this week.

The Saint Mary's golf team kicked off its 2026-27 campaign with a solid t-4th place finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Michigan back on September 7. The Gaels headed to Sage Run Golf Club for the fourth consecutive year and recorded another top-five finish after posting a tournament low seven-under final round to move into a tie for fourth place. The final round surge featured all four counting scores in red figures including a low round of 69 (-3) from Inigo Izuzquiza. Additional scores under par included a 70 (-2) from Central Michigan transfer Hudson Vedder and one-under rounds from youngsters Trey Tuyo and Landon Abalateo.
The standout for Saint Mary's in the opening week of the college golf season came from redshirt sophomore Sam Baumuller who led the Gaels with a 71.24 stroke average a season ago. Baumuller found himself tied for the tournament lead at 11-under-par after the opening day of the tournament, posting a first round of 66 (-6) and a second of 67 (-5). The Los Gatos native shot even par in the final round on Monday to remain at 11-under and finish tied for third place, good for his best ever collegiate finish and tying his career low tournament score which was set at the same event back in 2025.
