MGOLF | 2026-27 Season is Here; Gaels Set to Compete at the Island Resort Intercollegiate at Sage Run

HARRIS, Mich. - For the fourth consecutive year, the Saint Mary's golf team will kick off its season at the annual Island Resort Intercollegiate starting on Sunday, September 6. The Gaels have finished inside the top five in each of their last three appearances in the event and will look for another quality start to the 2026-27 season at Sage Run Golf Club this weekend.
Head coach Scott Hardy welcomed four newcomers to the 2026-27 roster including a trio of freshmen and one transfer. True freshman Landon Abalateo as well as Central Michigan transfer Hudson Vedder both cracked the starting lineup for the weekend, while additional freshmen in Drew Krystyn and Will Hardy will make the trip to Harris, Michigan this weekend to compete as individuals for Saint Mary's. Rounding out the rest of the lineup for the Gaels are returners Sam Baumuller and Inigo Izuzquiza, as well as Trey Tuyo, who will be making his collegiate debut after redshirting during the 2025-26 campaign.
Coach Hardy and the Gaels will seek their first season opening tournament victory since claiming the Inverness Intercollegiate title back in 2017.

As a program, the Gaels are building off of some nice momentum after receiving an at-large bid in last year's NCAA Tournament, securing the program's tenth all-time team selection and their first postseason appearance since 2019. Saint Mary's traveled to Tucson to compete in the Marana Regional, hosted by Arizona, and finished the three-round regional in ninth place, at three-under-par. Senior Aidan Lee was the star of the show for the Gaels at Gallery Golf Club, where he carded a three-round performance of 11-under, capped off by a six-under final round to finish in sixth place out of the near 90-player field. The sixth place individual finish was the best individual finish from a Gael at an NCAA Regional since program great Jonathan De Los Reyes finished tied for sixth at the 2013 NCAA Pullman Regional. Saint Mary's put together its best round of the regional that day as well, combining to shoot 9-under to remain in ninth place.
Sam Baumuller and Inigo Izuzquiza return from that 2026 NCAA Regional squad and will look to lead the Gaels to an eleventh all-time NCAA Tournament appearance here in 2027.
