MGOLF | Baumuller Tied for Tournament Lead; Gaels in Sixth Place After Day One of Island Resort Intercollegiate

HARRIS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished day one of the 2026 Island Resort Intercollegiate in sixth place out of the 12 competing teams. The Gaels posted a four-under second round score to move to five-under for the tournament on Sunday.
Leading the charge all day long was redshirt sophomore Sam Baumuller who currently sits tied for the tournament lead at 11-under-par. The Los Gatos native put together a six-under opening round in the morning before capping the day off with a 67 (-5) in round two to put himself at the top of the leaderboard. Ironically enough, Baumuller bogeyed his starting hole in both rounds but closed with a combined seven birdies over the final four holes of each round to surge up the leaderboard. 11-under has tied his career tournament low with 18 holes still to be played on Monday and Baumuller is also chasing his first collegiate win.
Additional counting scores for Saint Mary's included freshman Landon Abalateo who made his collegiate debut on Sunday. Abalateo sits in a tie for 21st place at even par, recording a pair of 72's in both rounds. Inigo Izuzquiza and Hudson Vedder were the other two counting scores for the Gaels to round out the opening day at Sage Run Golf Club.
Individuals Drew Krystyn and Will Hardy also made their collegiate debuts for the Gaels. Krystyn recorded a second round 71 (-1) for his low round of the day while Hardy carded a tournament low 73 (+1) in his morning round to sit in a tie for 42nd place at three-over-par.
