MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team etched its name into the history books on Sunday, becoming the first Gaels side to ever record seven consecutive shutouts in their 1-0 victory over Northern Arizona. The Gaels also reached 13 games on their current unbeaten streak dating back to last season, tying the program record set in 2001. The Gaels are now one of three teams in the country yet to allow a goal in 2026, engraving themselves into the history books as one of the greatest women's soccer teams in the history of Saint Mary's.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gaels started the game hot, recording eight shots in a first half filled with back-and-forth possession. Redshirt-junior goalkeeper Kate Plachy made a crucial save to her left in the 27th-minute off a strike from Big Sky Preseason-MVP Micala Boex, one of her two saves in the game in another solid performance for the Gaels. In similar fashion to Thursday's contest versus Columbia, the Gaels outshot the Lumberjacks by double digits, keeping them at bay thanks to center-back and captain Anna Emperador and company.

As the match progressed and the Gaels continued to apply pressure, the match looked like it may be headed for a draw when, in the 83rd minute, a diving header by freshman Brianna Jurasek nearly found the bottom corner but sailed just wide. Three minutes later, Jurasek got one more shot off a deflected cross from Emperador and found the back of the net with a header, sealing the victory for the Gaels after a hard-fought effort by both squads. The match concluded the Gaels' non-conference home slate, as they went 3-0-2 and continued their dominance at Saint Mary's Stadium.

GAME NOTES

The Gaels have now reached a 13-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season, tying the program record set by Paul Ratcliffe's side in 2001, which ended the '01 season 15-3-2.
The shutout was the seventh consecutive of the season, a new program record for most consecutive shutouts.
The Gaels are now unbeaten at home in 19 consecutive matches dating back to 2024, continuing the longest such streak in program history.
The Gaels remain the only team in the WCC yet to allow a goal, and are now one of three teams that have yet to allow a goal in the country this season.
Brianna Jurasek scored her third goal of the season, tying sophomore Ashlyn Vaughn for the team lead in 2026.
Five Gaels played the full 90, including three of four defenders, Anna Emperador, Molly Silva, and Aleiyah Schexnayder. Ashlyn Vaughn was the only offensive player to register the full 90, while Kate Plachy earned another shutout to reach the 20-shutout career mark.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saint Mary's will hit the road this coming week, first traveling to Sacramento to take on the Sacramento State Hornets on Thursday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. The Gaels will then head to the South Bay to take on the San Jose State Spartans on Sunday, September 13 at 12:00 p.m. Thursday's match will be available to stream on ESPN+, with tickets available for purchase HERE.
