WSOC | Gaels Hit The Road In NorCal Tests; Take On Sac State and San Jose State

MORAGA, Calif. -Saint Mary's women's soccer returns to action on Thursday to take on the unbeaten Sacramento State Hornets after another successful homestand. The Gaels not only remain one of three teams in the country yet to allow a goal, but have extended their shutout streak to seven games, setting a new program record for consecutive shutouts. A win or tie this Thursday would etch the Gaels into history once again, extending their unbeaten streak to 14 games, breaking the program record set by Paul Ratcliffe's side back in 2001.

Gaels Stay Unbeaten; Continue Receiving Votes in Latest IWSOC/USC Poll…
Saint Mary's maintained its unbeaten streak after two tough non-conference matchups this past week to close out its non-conference home slate. Saint Mary's first took on the Columbia Lions this past Thursday in a 0-0 draw that saw Saint Mary's outshoot Columbia by double digits in a wet, rainy match highlighted by a Kate Plachy game-saving stop in the 84th minute to preserve the shutout.
The Gaels then faced the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks this past Sunday in a 1-0 victory highlighted by a late goal from freshman forward Brianna Jurasek, her third goal of the season and the Gaels' first-ever victory over the Lumberjacks. Jurasek's goal now ties her with sophomore Ashlyn Vaughn for the team lead in 2026 and matches Vaughn's three-goal freshman campaign from a season ago. Jurasek also became the only Gael to record three-plus goals without recording a start in the past ten seasons, leading the Gaels to back-to-back weeks of receiving votes in the IWSOC poll.
Gaels Sweep WCC Awards with Jurasek and Emperador…
For the first time since week three of the 2025 season, Saint Mary's women's soccer took home both Offensive and Defensive WCC Player of the Week Awards. Freshman Brianna Jurasek and graduate center back Anna Emperador took home the first Player of the Week honors of their collegiate careers, with Emperador leading the charge as the third consecutive Gael to win the defensive award this season.
Emperador delivered back-to-back 90-minute performances and led the Gael back line to yet another shutout victory. Jurasek's 87th-minute game-winning header earned her the nod for the Gaels' first WCC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. The Gaels took home the offensive side of the weekly award twice in 2025. Jurasek also became the first Gael freshman to win the WCC Player of the Week award since freshman goalkeeper Maleah Milner in 2017.

The Gaels look to continue their domination over the Hornets, coming in with a 12-4-1 record and winning the last three matches by a combined ten-goal difference. Last time facing the Hornets in 2023, the Gaels won 4-0 in Moraga, a game highlighted by a brace from forward Brianna Salvetti. As for the Spartans, the Gaels lead the all-time series 12-5-2, going unbeaten in four previous matches, including a 2-0 victory a season ago in Moraga. A season prior, the Gaels battled the Spartans in a 0-0 draw in their last visit to the Spartan Soccer Complex.
ABOUT THE HORNETS (4-0-2, 0-0-0 BIG WEST)
After a 6-11-1 season and four straight losses to end the year, the Sacramento State Hornets have completely turned it around in 2026, going unbeaten in six games to start the year ahead of their first season of Big West play. First-year head coach Tim Strader joins the program with plenty of Big West success, helping CSUN capture its first Big West Championship in 2012 as an assistant coach, while winning the WAC Championship in 2024 as associate head coach during his tenure with newest Big West member Cal Baptist.
Picked to finish last in the Big West, the Hornets have shocked the college soccer world in 2026 and remain one of three unbeaten teams in the Big West, a list that includes the Cal Baptist Lancers who are one of three teams like the Gaels yet to allow a goal in 2026. The Hornets are led by junior forward Candace Ching, who leads the squad with four goals, including a 49-minute brace against Southern Utah and goals in back-to-back games for the Hornets.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS (0-3-2, 0-0-0 MOUNTAIN WEST)
After a difficult 1-14-3 campaign a season ago, the San Jose State Spartans have shown progress in 2026 and remain in search of their first win of the season. The Spartans are led by second-year head coach Sonia Curvelo, who comes to San Jose after a successful stint at Sam Houston State and an impressive playing career for Mississippi Valley State in which she led MVSU to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
Picked to finish last in the Mountain West, the Spartans come into the week 0-3-2 after drawing back-to-back matches this past week. The Spartans earned three 2026 MW Women's Soccer Watch List nominees, including senior forward Paige Pineda Aliamus, who led the Spartans with seven goals in 2025. One of the bright spots for the Spartans thus far has been freshman forward Abigail Peterman, who scored both of the Spartans' goals this season in their 2-2 draw against Cal State Fullerton.
