MORAGA, Calif. - Women’s Tennis double partners Iman Khan and Olivia Rook started off their season strong as they earned Shamrock Office Solutions Student-Athletes of the Week thanks to their finals appearance in the team’s first event of the 2024-25 season.
At the Cal Fall Invite, veterans Khan and Rook progressed to the quarterfinals after having a bye in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, the duo defeated Cal duo Cami Brown and Sophie Hernandez 8-5, advancing to the semifinals.
Khan and Rook then defeated another Cal duo, 8-4, and moved on to the finals on Sunday. The veterans fell to tournament host Tiziana Marie Schomburg and Naomi Xu 8-5 to end their weekend. “Khan and Rook had a slow start to start their doubles final but played really well in the second half of the match”, said head coach Katharina Winterhalter. “It was great to see them represent our program in the finals against a quality pair of Cal players”.
The duo and the rest of the Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team will compete next at the ITA Regional Championships starting on October 11th, where both SMC and Berkeley will co host the event.
