WTEN | Gaels Improve to 3-1 in WCC Play with 4-2 Win Over Seattle U

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Saint Mary's women's tennis team is off to its best start in West Coast Conference play since 2024 after defeating Seattle U 4-2 on Thursday to improve to 3-1 in conference action.
The Gaels are rolling here to start WCC play, with wins over Pacific, Gonzaga and Seattle U to sit at 3-1, good for third place in the conference standings. Saint Mary's took the doubles point against the Redhawks on Thursday with wins from Madison Weekley/Elif Tuana Gunal and Sydney Wilson/Sophie Stanton. Weekley and Gunal improved to 5-6 as a pair this season, while Wilson and Stanton won their third match together this season.
Singles play was competitive on both sides, as Seattle U grabbed a couple points back with wins out of the top two singles spots. Helping clinch the match for the Gaels though were singles wins from Gunal, Weekley and Wilson, all coming in straight sets. Weekley won her team leading tenth dual of the season, defeating Seattle's Amina Avdic 6-4 6-4. Gunal and Wilson each won their fifth singles match of the season as first-year Gaels to help seal the victory. Wilson had the clinching point for Saint Mary's with a 6-2 7-5 win over Larissa Teramura out of the fifth position.
