WTEN | Gaels Put in Strong Effort in 4-1 Loss to Washington State

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team hosted Washington State in its home West Coast Conference opener and put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 4-1 to the Cougars.
Sofia Daryaie and Sophie Stanton narrowly lost their doubles match 5-7, while Madison Weekley and Elif Tuana Gunal went unfinished after Washington State clinched the doubles point with a win by default in the third doubles position.
In singles play, Weekley had the lone victory for the Gaels, winning 6-2 in straight sets. The senior now leads the Gaels with eight dual wins on the season and brings her record to 8-4 overall. Daryaie and Stanton went unfinished in their duals as Daryaie dropped her first set on a narrow tiebreaker while Stanton bounced back to win her second set 6-1 before the match was finalized.
