Moraga, Ca (Oct. 4) -- Freshman goalkeeper Ruth Montgomery (Portland, OR) was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for the month of September. Montgomery has led Saint Mary's to a perfect 10-0 record thus far, tying the school record for most consecutive wins. In addition, the 10-0 start is the best in school history.
Montgomery has recorded eight shutouts for the Gaels, including her school-record sixth consecutive shutout when Saint Mary's defeated Denver, 1-0, on Sunday. The eight shutouts already ranks her fourth on Saint Mary's career records list.
Montgomery leads the WCC in four categories: shutouts (8), goals allowed (3), goals against average (0.28) and minutes played (973). Montgomery's shutout per game average of 0.80, ranks second in the conference and her 45 saves ranks third.
Saint Mary's joins #1-ranked Santa Clara (11-0) and #2 Florida (11-0) as the only undefeated teams in the nation. The Gaels will put their perfect record on the line when they host Santa Clara on Wednesday at 4:00 pm in Saint Mary's Stadium.
