
Women's Soccer Knocks off Long Beach State to Win the UNLV Tournament

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women soccer team (2-0) held off the Long Beach State 49ers (0-1-1) in the first overtime 2-1 to take the title at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Tournament.
Freshman Sarah Rae Takekawa headed the game winning goal in on a cross pass from sophomore Shauna Rech in the 100:34 minute mark. The Gaels scored their first goal from freshman Jenny Barbera at the 8:40 minute mark, when she burned a hole through the net 15-yards out, unassisted. Jenny Barbera had a stellar performance this weekend, finishing with two assists and one goal (4 points).
Long Beach State's Kristin Travis retaliated back in the second half, connecting on an assist from teammate Deanna Bender to even the score at 1-1.
Saint Mary's next event will be against Northwestern at the Northwestern Invitational Tournament. Play is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 8. The Gaels will continue in tournament action on Monday, September 10, versus the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 am.
