Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's volleyball team recorded its first conference victory of the season following a sweep of the Gonzaga Bulldogs by the final score of 3-0. Game scores for the Gaels' victory over the Bulldogs were 30-24, 30-18, and 30-24. With the win the Gaels improved to 14-6 (1-2) on the season, while Gonzaga fell to 3-15 (0-3).

For the match, Saint Mary's dominated play from the beginning to end, as the team never trailed Gonzaga in any of the three matches. A potent mixture of aggressive offense and an acting defensive presence allowed the Gaels to control the tempo of match. Offensively, the Gaels posted a .300 hitting percentage and finished with 53 kills. Saint Mary's was also aided by a total of seven aces. Defensively, the Gaels were able to hold the Bulldogs to a .077 hitting percentage. Saint Mary's total of 18 block assists to the Bulldogs six also proved to be an important factor in the Gaels victory.

Leading the charge offensively for Saint Mary's were Kaui Salzman and Jill Parmele. Salzman, a sophomore, recorded the only double-double of the match as she finished with 17 kills and 11 digs. Parmele, a senior, also contributed strong offensive statistics as she recorded a match-high 18 kills. The Acampo, CA native also posted nine digs, two assists, and two block assists for the match.

Defensively, Saint Mary's was led by 2002 All-WCC Honorable Mention honoree Stacey O'Connor, who posted a match-high six block assists. O'Connor also contributed three kills and tied for a match-high with three aces. Also providing solid defensive support was Cassandra Kolkka. The freshman posted double digits in digs after finishing the match with 10.

Saint Mary's will resume conference play when the team takes on the Portland Pilots tomorrow, October 11, at 7:05 PM in McKeon Pavilion.
