
Men's Golf To Participate in Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's men's golf team will travel to Santa Barbara, CA on Monday and Tuesday, March 31 and April 1 to participate in the Bite/Pacific Intercollegiate at the Sandpiper Golf Course. The tournament will be 54 holes, 36 on the first day and 18 on day two.
Gaels To Watch: 2002 WCC October Player of the Month, Joe Lanza, will lead the Gaels as they prepare to take the links. Lanza currently leads the team on the season in scoring average (73.6), low round (66), and low tournament (207). Lanza has also been the team's lowest scorer in six of their eight events. Also contributing the Gaels' success will be Liam Kendregan. The sophomore has two top-10 finishes on the season and is second on the team in scoring average (75.6). The Gaels will also be looking for junior's Brent Jensen and 2002 All-WCC First Team selection, John Chirila, to continue their consistent play.
Scouting the Field: Of the 21 teams in the tournament, eight are currently ranked in the nation's Division I top-100. Cal (No. 31), UC Irvine (No.36), Colorado State (No. 38), and Fresno State (No. 39) lead the field. These top teams will also be joined by Denver (No. 46), Texas El-Paso (No.49), UC Riverside (No. 85), and San Jose State (No. 93). Besides the Gaels, the tournament will also host Santa Clara, San Diego, and San Francisco from the WCC.
Last Tournament: Saint Mary's last played in the Sacramento State Invitational with stellar results. The team finished the tournament in 3rd place with 917 total strokes. Individually, the Gaels had two players finish the tournament in the top-10. Sophomore Joe Lanza led the Gaels by finishing in a tie for 3rd place with 219 strokes (+3) and Liam Kendregan finished in 9th place with 228 strokes (+12). Brent Jensen also played well after finishing in a tie for 12th place with 230 strokes (+14).
Next Tournament: Saint Mary's will wrap up their season at the WCC Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15 at the Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, CA.
