MARICOPA, Ariz. - The Saint Mary's men's golf team found itself in ninth place after day one of the 2026 Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Arizona. Round two was suspended due to darkness as play is set to resume at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Gaels overcame a tough start on the back nine at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes, but were able to score well on the front nine, and post a 6-under first round to climb into the top-ten. Leading the scoring surge for the Gaels was senior Aidan Lee, who posted a 33 (-3) over his final nine holes of action. Lee tied redshirt freshman Sam Baumuller for the team lead with five birdies in his round, and was the Gaels low score of the day with a first round 69 (-3).
The other three counting scores all recorded 1-under opening rounds from the likes of Avery Lazarski, Mitchell Hoey and Baumuller. Lazarski got through his first ten holes of the second round before darkness suspended play, but was off to a good start with a clean card and two birdies to sit at 2-under. Lee was the only other SMC golfer with scores reported, as he was +2 through his first nine holes to put Saint Mary's at even par to start round two. Officially, the Gaels sit in ninth place along with Wichita State.
