Women's Tennis Beats Sonoma State 5-2

Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team notched their second victory of the season on Saturday, when they beat Sonoma State University 5-2 at the Korth Tennis Complex on the Saint Mary's campus. With the win the Gaels improve to 2-6 while the Seawolves drop to 1-3 on the season.
The Gaels started out the day winning two of the three doubles matches to capture the point. Saint Mary's then went on to win four singles matches to secure the victory.
In singles action Aude Lambert earned her third victory of the season when she beat Sonoma's Brianna Bailey 6-1, 6-1 at the #1 position. At the #2 position, Saint Mary's Kate Harden defeated Nicole Warm by a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Gaels' Megan Schulman notched her first singles victory of the season when she beat Kelly Murphy 7-5, 7-6 (2), at the #3 position. Nicole Hunstock also recorded a singles victory for the Gaels when she defeated Katie Murphy by the score of 6-1, 6-2 at the #5 position.
In doubles action, the Gaels were able to record victories at the #1 and #2 positions. The Saint Mary's duo of Lambert and Hunstock recorded their third straight doubles victory at the #1 position when they beat the Seawolves' Kelly and Katie Murphy 8-4. The Saint Mary's tandem of Kristen Kummer and Kate Harden notched their third consecutive doubles victory as well and their fifth on the season when they defeated Gina Dunch and Warm 8-1 at the #2 position.
Saint Mary's (2-6) returns to action next week for two matches. On Thursday, March 4 the Gaels face off against Davidson at 3:00 PM at the Korth Tennis Complex and then on Saturday, March 6 Saint Mary's travels to Stockton for a match against the University of Pacific at 1:00 PM.
