
Robert Risley Named Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's College head women's soccer coach Paul Sapsford, today announced Robert Risley as an assistant coach. Robert Risley joins the coaching staff as the graduate assistant beginning with the 2004 season. Risley's duties will include marketing, recruiting and player development.
"Rob has tremendous experience accrued from an extensive playing and coaching career," said Sapsford. "Furthermore, Rob possesses the values of hard work, responsibility and accountability that we seek from our staff and students alike. I am convinced that our student-athletes will learn skills from Rob that will assist them on and off the field of play."
Risley joins the program after several years coaching at various levels, including youth, college and professional programs in Massachusetts. Risley holds his NSCAA Advanced National and National diploma's as well as the English FA Coaching certificate. Most recently he led the senior women's team, the Boston Renegades of the W-League, to an undefeated regular season title as well as coaching for Assumption College at the Division II level. Additionally, Risley has assisted with numerous soccer camps and coaching schools, on a year-round basis, in Massachusetts and New England.
Risley attended Marshall University, West Virginia, from 1993-97, starting four years as a central defender, captaining the team from his sophomore season. Risley gained all-conference, all-tournament and All-American scholar accolades and was also voted the team's most valuable player for two straight years.
Prior to Marshall, Risley played for Tottenham Hotspurs youth teams of the English Premiership and also represented England Schoolboys as well as being the all-time caps leader for Essex County. After college, Risley played for Romford and Hornchurch in the English Ryman division and also played for the Rhode Island Stingrays in Division three from 2001-02.
Risley, a 1997 graduate from Marshall with a degree in Journalism, will begin work on his master's degree at Saint Mary's in Health Physical Education and Recreation, beginning in the summer of 2004.
