Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's junior forward Genevieve Hollis (Citrus Heights, CA) was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week on September 15 for her outstanding play against Cal Poly and in the 2004 SMC Fall Soccer Classic. Hollis, a junior college transfer from Sierra JC, has helped the Gaels post a 6-1 overall record this season and move into the top-30 in the nation's rankings.
Hollis collected a total of seven points last week after scoring three goals and dishing out one assist, while helping the Gaels post a 3-0 record. Hollis scored the game-winning goal in SMC's 1-0 win over No. 23 ranked Cal Poly on September 7. For an encore Hollis tallied two goals and an assist in the 2004 Saint Mary's Fall Soccer Classic on the weekend.
In Friday's game against San Jose State, Hollis dished out an assist to Maureen Cindrich for the Gaels' second goal of the game. Saint Mary's would go on to defeat the Spartans 4-0. Against Colgate on Sunday, Hollis scored the final two goals for the Gaels in SMC's 5-0 victory over the Raiders.
Hollis currently leads the team in points and goals, with 12 points and five goals, and she is tied for second on the team with two assists. Compared to the players in the West Coast Conference, she is tied for second in points and tied for third in goals.
Hollis and the Gaels will continue their season when they travel to Dallas, TX to participate in the SMU Tournament this weekend. Saint Mary's will open tournament play against Stephen F. Austin on Friday before facing No. 21-ranked SMU on Sunday.
